A Private Offering: Curator 3.2" in Mammoth Ivory
For this build, I wanted to work with a material that has always inspired me. The handle is shaped from a particularly stunning piece of 20,000-year-old mammoth ivory—a relic of the Ice Age that still shows the warmth of its tawny mineral tones and the fractured, stone-like character created through fossilization. Those natural patterns follow the flow of the Curator 3.2", giving the piece a sense of movement even at rest.
The feel of the ivory is smooth and cool—almost glassy—so I added burlap micarta to introduce texture and a confident grip. Its layered weave is subtle visually but unmistakable in hand, grounding the organic elegance of the ivory with a more rugged tactile element.
To bring everything together, I finished the knife with mirror-polished zirconium thumb studs and a matching pocket clip. The contrast of ancient material and modern metalwork is exactly the balance I aim for: a tool made to be used, yet refined enough to be displayed.
