A recent commission came from a long-time client who needed a reliable utility blade for deep sea fishing trips. The brief was clear: compact, tough, and low-maintenance, something that could be worn comfortably on a boat and handle everything from spiking fish to cutting line and light processing.

We landed on a 4-inch drop point knife with a sculpted handle for grip and control. The blade is forged from CPM Magnacut, a high-performance stainless steel known for its excellent corrosion resistance, edge retention, and toughness; well-suited for saltwater use and prolonged exposure to the elements.

The handle features stabilized amboyna burl, shaped and carved for comfort and tactile control, reinforced with titanium bolsters for durability. Together, the materials balance form and function while keeping weight low and grip secure, even when wet.

For the sheath, I wanted something that matched the piece’s purpose. I used a custom-tanned rust-brown tilapia leather with a natural fish scale texture that subtly echoes the marine environment it was made for. It’s fitted with a belt loop for easy wear and access on the go.

Built to be used, worn, and trusted—this knife is a one-off tailored to the needs of an angler. If you're interested in a similar build, I have two open custom slots left for the quarter. A set like this starts at $4000.
